TOP 5 FRIDAY: Hillsong (+ a giveaway!)

on July 6, 2012 in Giveaways, Sounds good to me., TOP 5 FRIDAY with 31 comments by

First of all, the winner of Sarah Martin’s Stress Point is commenter #34: BEKAH! Congrats, Bekah! And wowsers, after reading all those comments, I’m thinking you 20-somethings just need to come over to my house and I’ll make lunch and let’s talk about some things, y’all. I’ll let you know when it is planned.

Not really. But maybe. Because I love you people.

On to the show….

. . . . .

TOP 5 FRIDAY is when we each list five of our favorite things, depending on the topic. Feel free to join in via the comments or by posting on your own blog and linking back here. Play along. It’s Friday.

. . . . .

One of the things I push my small group gals about is filling their mind with Godly music. You may recall I made them a little Lent Playlist this spring. And the Hillsong worship albums are some of my absolute favorite.

So I pulled a CLASSIC Annie and opened up the ol’ iTunes, put “Hillsong” in the search box, and then listed the songs by most played.

Because blogging should be the most riveting of entertainment media, here are my Top 5 Hillsong worship songs. [And I am going to kind of announce them like they are in a beauty pageant. Read it that way, okay?]

. . . . .

Coming in at #5, with 21 plays, most recently on May 20th in the middle of the afternoon, Bones from the Aftermath album!

Tied for #4, each with 23 plays, Point of Difference from All Of The Above [last played when I was in Scotland last July] and Hosanna [last played, well, on Monday].

The #3 position is held for a special song, played 30 times, lastly on February 19 [and you can keep your Valentine's Day comments to yourself thank you very much]- None But Jesus from United We Stand.

Just squeaking by with 31 listens, last played from this laptop in May of 2010 [indicating a serious song addiction in the 2009-2010 season of life], 2nd place goes to Made Me Glad from This Is Our God.

And our #1 Hillsong United song, with a commanding 40 plays, most recently in February [the 19th was apparently a worshipful / tough day, y'all], Lead Me To The Cross from All Of The Above.

. . . . .

Why this Top 5 Friday topic? Because the good people at Hillsong released a NEW album this week- a live album called Cornerstone. And I think you’ll love it.

The fine folks at Hillsong gave me a copy of this album earlier this week so I could give it a spin and see if a) I liked it and b) if I wanted to tell you about it because I liked it.

Yes and yes.

No joke, the songs from this album are creeping up my Hillsong most-played list and will crack the Top 5 in no time. #7- Grace Abounds? Yeah, it makes me cry. The album is full of songs that we’ll be singing in our churches in NO TIME, y’all. No time.

[And listen, free copy for me or not, if the music wasn't good and I didn't think you would genuinely like it, I wouldn't tell you about it. I promise.]

Those same good folks at Hillsong? They are giving away THREE copies of Cornerstone today!!!

Cool, right? I KNOW.

TWO winners will be picked by random number generator.

The third album will go to the person who leaves the most convincing comment as to why you should get a free copy of this worship album.

So… to win, just leave a comment below telling us why YOU should get this free album!

[Buttering me up with happy birthday wishes won't help you, though I can totally see why you think it would, with me loving my birthday and all.]

You have until 5pm CST on Sunday, July 8th to enter.

Booyah, right? Totes booyah.

Have a great weekend!

Why I should win the album?…well I carry around my laptop like a security blanket but since I haven’t bought music in a l.o.n.g. time the vast majority of my music is kid’s music from when I was little or (bad) classical music that my ~11 year old self bought because the cd’s were on clearance and that was a time in my life it was hard to distinguish good deal from useless item…I need some more mature music…

Why should I get the CD? Hmmmm. Well, to be honest, I don’t know that I could come up with a compelling reason for you to give me the cd. But, I am in a time of my life where I need to draw closer to God and strengthen my faith(it’s been a bit shaken in recent years and I’m realizing how much I really do need him in life). I love worship, so having new worship music would really help. So, that’s the best I can do.

why should i receive the cd?… well, i am the mom of three littles so my music choices are SHOUT! kids live, kids praise and worship music etc! luckily the veggie tales days are over. they are coming around to franchesca battistelli and natelie grant and they do love some chris tomlin, so my choices are widening now.

Why should I get the Hillsong cd? Well, I just made my first Hillsong purchase on iTunes the other day, so I am a fan in the making! Second, it’s almost time for me to make the drive back to school, and there is nothing like 3 hours of worshipping God along the way to kick off a new school year! :o)

I love, love, love Hillsong! And I have three kids, so my car listening for the past six years or so has consisted of nursery rhymes, toddler favs, and – as of late- Justin Beiber. Nothing against any of these, but a little Hillsong would be nice to add into the rotation :-).

SO GREAT! Hillsong has pretty much been the soundtrack of my transformation. From hymns to my “rebellious” stage leaving my traditional denomination for a charismatic non-denom where I actually got to know Him and follow daily. From the first time I heard “The Stand” years ago until now, where I blog about worship music and spiritual formation, there is a Hillsong song for pretty much every stage and season of my journey. Interested to see what this next one will hold… :)

I think you should give the album to me because I have been faithfully reading your blog for about 3 years now. You were aware of this. We’ve talked about your blog posts. However, you only acknowledge the dude demographic after (from what I can tell) a couple guys who have been reading for a few months call you out. I have suffered through nail polish posts. I’ve read about your love of all things glitter. I’ve even came back after multiple posts asking which hairstyle you should chose.

All I’m saying is that you should consider these things, and give me that cd. Justice, Annie. It’s justice.

Also, there may be a free coke icee in it for you.

Well, the theme looks as though I should have three kids singing in my backseat in order to win this one, but as it turns out… I fall up short on that.
In about a month & a half, I leave for college. And while I am INCREDIBLY excited about this new stage, I find myself becoming a little nervous. One of my best friends started the same school last year and she made a remark the other day that made me realize how much effort this relationship with Christ is going to take. She said, “Be ready to have every corner of your life corrupted. And be ready to just let it happen. Embrace it.” And I don’t really want to embrace it. So, the more my iTunes is full of those reminders to run back to the One who sustains, the more I fill my mind with the pure things, the more able I will feel to tackle this new stage.

Plus, there was this one time we ate queso together… and c’mon… there’s no better bond than a queso bond.

    Top 5 Friday:
Coming in at #5 with 1 star out of a 5 star rating, I should receive the album because July 7 is such a beautiful day. Because on this day a few years ago Elvis Presley made his radio debut when WHBQ Memphis played his first recording for Sun Records, “That’s All Right.” [You thought I was gonna say it's your birthday.]
Coming in at #2 with 2 stars out of 5, I should receive this album because every time I go to church I hear a new Hillsong song that I haven’t heard before, and I immediately have to buy it because it’s beautiful. Latest example: Forever Reign.
Coming in at #3 with 3 stars out of 5, I should receive this album because currently my top second most played song is Hillsong coming in at 47 plays.
Coming in at #4 with 4 stars out of 5, I should receive this album because I’m a po’ kid. And I have a need to buy more worship music. It’s more of an addiction than a need. And since I’m a po’ kid, I can’t buy music. My addiction needs to be fed or I might do something so awful, so maddening, so ugly, so sinful and ungodly that I may never be able to regain my testimony… like listen to “Call Me Maybe.”
Coming in at #5 with 5 stars out of 5, I should receive this album because I really love Jesus. Add to the fact that I really love Annie. Add to the fact that I really love Hillsong. Add to the fact that I really love music. Add to the fact that I really love. It’s a no brainer. ;)

Hillsong music has helped me pray during highs and lows in my life. I often led “Desert Song” at my church in Colorado, and though it was probably one of the best times in my life, that song always reminded me that I was being “filled to be emptied again,” making me stop and offer God thanksgiving for giving me so much joy and stability at that time in my life. The next year, after a tough move cross country, I found myself pregnant and in a lot of pain-pain neither I nor my doctors could explain. Almost every day I turned to “Arms Open Wide.” I absolutely needed to be reminded that “I was God’s and He was mine” during that scary time. When I was eventually diagnosed with cancer and my son was in the NICU, I sang “None But Jesus,” to myself and my son almost daily. I am so thankful for Hillsong and can’t wait to hear their new songs. I am now in remission and one year out of treatment, but I’m still healing emotionally, and I often struggle to pray and trust that I’ll be made whole again. I can’t wait to hear the new Hillsong album-I’m sure the songs will aide me in my prayer life as they always have!

Why should i win the Hillsong CD? I teach in China so for 10 months out of the year i dont have regular access to church or worship materials and it’s something i could share with the team i work with! Many Hillsong songs (notably Desert Song) have helped me get through some rough times overseas and i would be so grateful for the new album not only for myself but to encourage the people i work with.

ok, i was going to sit down and write some little quirky bid on why i should win this album since im going to Scotland for a 1 year internship with a church next year and i would love to get my hands on some fabulous worship to take me through those times I know i will need to cling to Jesus.

But, im not on the mission field yet and i have plenty of time get a cd before my departure in March. However, mary beth’s comment (above me) totally pulled my heartstrings so if I, by some chance, win this cd, will you pass my winning on to her? I know what it’s like being in a spiritually dry place and needing that cool and calming drink of Water. <3

Why do I need this new CD? Well, I’m a college gal. In other words, I’m broke as a joke. But really, Worship in my car is one of the sweetest times of my day. I usually take the long way home just so I can worship. I nanny all day long and have two little girls with me in the car all of the time who weren’t raised to know The Lord in sweet ways. They are very much attenders of church but they haven’t been able to see God as their daddy and one who adores them and wants to know them. So, I would love to win this CD not only for my season of life this summer but these girls need to know truth through worship. Love your blog, Annie.

Well, as for cool responses, I really think you should give it to Mallory. I am just not that creative this morning. :-). I want a hill song cd because we do traditional worship at my church, so CDs and iTunes is how I keep up with modern worship. I love hill song and the passion movement. :-)

I have seen what a change in music can really do for your mind over the last few months. I have changed all my music station presets to my local Klove station and christian stations. I love Hillsongs so much and would love their new album.

I drive almost an hour to and from work each day. Yes that’s a long way. And I listen to Christian music almost 98% of the time. I helps relax me and get my mind on the Lord before my day at work begins or as I’m going home. Anyways, I already have one of HS’s earlier CD’s and I love love it. So it would be great to be given another one from you my friend. :0) I would make my day…really!!! Thanks…can’t wait to read your new book also.

ooo i LOVE music and i do oh so love hillsong and let’s be honest, a song called grace abounds sounds like it would fit my heart and life so perfectly. i don’t have any crazy story of why i should get the cd, but i would really love it and it’d be an honor to get a copy because well god does amazing things through lyrics and words and that’s beautiful =) either way thanks for letting me know about the album!

Why would I love to have this CD? The encouragement it would bring while we wait to bring home our child through adoption. It’s already been two years and to be honest some days worship music and time in the Word are all that get me through!

WHY, oh Why? Well, 1) You will get my daughter for 12 days and it will be her fourth trip across the ocean while I have been, well NONE! ( does that sound sufficiently sad?) 2) I have a BUSY 7 year who keeps me crazy busy with swim team, summer camp, and being a boy (!), and 3) if I am not with him it’s the other two little ones I keep who only let me listen to Mickey Mouse and the Wheels on the Bus. I NEED new music! Live Joyfully!

Oh! First of all, I am a Worship Leader and that would be a great stuff, to learn new songs for leading. Second of all, I’m an Album Collector of Christian artist, since I haven’t yet buy that New release, due to some reasons, maybe you can pick me? (hahahaha!). Third of all, Hillsong played a big role in my Christian life. Fourth and the last of all, I love Australian Christian Artists. Blessings! :)

I think I should win the cd because I don’t have a single hillsong cd. Plus, I can blare it in my new mini-van! Maybe the awesome praise and worship sounds will make driving a van cool.
Not to mention that you are wise, intellegent, and beautiful. (a little butter’n up is aloud, right?)

I love Hillsong, but don’t own any of their music. I remember the first time I heard of Hillsong. It was way back when Darlene Zschech sang “Shout to the Lord”. That song still gives me chills.

I have a new granddaughter due any day now. She’s quite overdue as a matter of fact. She’s probably just waiting to share your birthday! Happy Birthday, Annie!

I’d be really psyched to get this album because listening to tunes on my laptop is how I get my worship time, as the people in the little church I attend are like “Hill—who?”. Music feeds my soul and is how I most connect with Jesus, and navigating the last few years of craving music-loving, relatable community has been tough. Help a girl out, Annie! :)

Well, I certainly don’t think I’m more deserving of winning after reading all these comments, but I’d still love to win a copy! My three girls (soon to be four!) love to help with chores as long as there’s a soundtrack, and we would love to shake said soundtrack up a bit… And we do love us some hillsong!

Because I crazy love them? Is that convincing enough? Ha! :) I love Hosanna, it’s one of my fave songs. I just checked my itunes because you got me all curious and my #1 Hillsong tune is Desert Song. Pretty much my anthem these days!
