That Sounds Fun Episode 35: Book Writing

on April 27, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with no comments by

We got so many emails from friends who want to write a book or think about writing a book and just don’t know how to start. Guess what? I DIDN’T EITHER. But now I do…. well, sorta. I know enough to try to help some of you writer friends not make the mistakes I did at the start.

While this is only one author’s opinion, I sure hope it is helpful to you!

That Sounds Fun Episode 34: Tsh Oxenreider

on April 20, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with no comments by

I really love Tsh. She has been a good friend to me for many years and a total mentor when it comes to being an author and internet-y person. She writes some of my favorite stuff, including her book Notes From A Blue Bike and the newest one (that just released this week!) called At Home In The World. When she told me they were taking their family around the world for a year, I didn’t think she was crazy. I thought, “sounds like something they will do really well.” And sure enough, they did.

Tsh and I talk about all sorts of life things (including enneagram DUH) and her family and her life and the year they will never forget. Hope you love this one!

Barnabas Piper. Y’all are gonna love this guy. Smart. Funny. Loves Jesus. Doesn’t mind bossing me around. 🙂 Our kind of people.

Barnabas writes a lot- three books so far plus countless articles and many tweets that you will certainly enjoy- and his new book, The Curious Christian, is one of the best I’ve read this year. I totally loved having him on the podcast (you can see proof of our friendship and interview here on instagram) and I think you’ll enjoy our conversation and get hooked on his books and podcasts as well!

Man, it is always so extra special to me when my longtime friends join me on an episode of the podcast. That is the case today with Lisa-Jo Baker. Years and years of friendship are going to be the filter through which this podcast exists. 🙂 Lisa-Jo is an incredible friend, a mighty good author, and just an all around fun person to talk with.

Today we’re celebrating the release of her new book, Never Unfriended, and I think you are going to love all she has to say about it (and the book itself!)

That Sounds Fun Episode 31: John Mark Comer

on March 30, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with no comments by

Okay so this podcast is different than any other you’ve listened to from me so far— how come? Because every episode has been a friend of mine that I’m happy to introduce to you. Today? It’s a dude who I’ve been WANTING to be friends with! So, you will literally hear our friendship be born on the podcast. WHAT A DAY.

John Mark Comer is a pastor and teacher and author out of Portland, Oregon. His book Garden City is one of my lifetime favorites and his new one, God Has A Name, is a great read that is going to probably make you ask a lot of questions and start some great conversations.

Speaking of, I hope you think today’s talk with John Mark is a great conversation! Share it with your friends!

That Sounds Fun Episode 30: Adam Weber

on March 23, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with no comments by

Adam Weber is going to become one of those dudes you wish you could grab coffee with on a regular basis. You know why? Because he’s just an easy guy to like. He’s friendly, honest, and a great listener. He also loves God a lot and cares deeply that the people around Him know God for who He really is. The same with prayer- Adam really cares that we see prayer for the true thing that it is, a way to connect with God in a way that changes us and our situations.

Hope you love this episode. And be sure to share it with a friend who you know could use the encouragement to connect with God today. To hear our conversations, you can either subscribe and listen on iTunes, or feel free to listen on the player below!

That Sounds Fun Podcast Episode 28: Russ Ramsey

on March 17, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with 1 comment by

This podcast is going to be a bit of balm to your soul, friends. Russ Ramsey just has that way about him. He is a pastor to seekers, a category I am always in, and you can sense it when you listen to him- he is concerned for the hearts that have questions. He also understands how to fry cheese which is a bit of a revolutionary process in my mind. His new book, Struck, is an invitation to walk his story, a lament, a story of suffering, and a story of love. It’s beautiful and I’m so glad I got talk with him about it.

Hope you love this episode!

That Sounds Fun Podcast Episode 29: Jennifer Dukes Lee + Craving Connection

on March 16, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with 1 comment by

Y’all. I have been DYING to get Jennifer Dukes Lee on the podcast! She is funny and kind and lovely and LOVES TO TALK ABOUT HAPPINESS…. which, as you know, is a favorite topic of mine as well. Jennifer and I both got to contribute to (in)courage’s new book Craving Connection, so you better believe we spent some good time talking about that too.

Hope you enjoy this episode- and make sure to check out Jennifer’s books as well! She’s just the best.

That Sounds Fun Podcast Episode 27: Ellie Holcomb

You know this girl. Ellie Holcomb is one of my dearest friends and someone I love being around. You’ve heard her voice since the show began- she’s our background music for almost every episode- but this week marks a musical switcharoo to the song “Fighting Words” from the new album Red Sea Road.

We sat down a few days ago and just talked about all the things- seriously. We were eating doughnuts and chatting as if the microphones weren’t even there. So if you’ve ever wanted to eavesdrop on a conversation, this is your chance! 🙂

That Sounds Fun Podcast Episode 26: She Reads Truth + Lent

on February 28, 2017 in That Sounds Fun Podcast with no comments by

Lent has long been my favorite season on the calendar. Blame it on my United Methodist upbringing, but Lent has always meant something to me. Something deep. Something important. And my middle school brain had no idea that EVERYONE didn’t celebrate it. Only as I went off to college did I find out that lots of Christians didn’t even think about Lent in the spring.

WHAAAAAA?!?!

Things seem different now. Lots of people from lots of denominations have started to embrace the Christian calendar and celebrate the seasons. AND I AM THRILLED ABOUT IT.

With Lent starting tomorrow (ASH WEDNESDAY!), I wanted to make sure you got to hear this podcast with the amazing gals from SheReadsTruth all about Lent. We took questions from many of you about Lent, answered them as best we could, and then just talked about all the things. I hope you’ll love it and share it with your people who wanna know about Lent.
