TOP 5 FRIDAY: Things you need to know.

on April 29, 2011 in TOP 5 FRIDAY with 21 comments by

You know. I had a great plan to do a legit TOP 5 FRIDAY post today. You know, something awesome like TOP 5 SONGS or something that y’all won’t quit commenting on because we all love our TOP 5 BOOKS.

But instead, I’m just going to tell you five things that are keeping me from doing an awesome TOP 5 FRIDAY list.

1. Tornadoes

  • I was supposed to do a giveaway yesterday [fine- I’ll let you preview the goods], but it just didn’t seem right with all the hurt and loss and devastation that happened in and around this part of the country. My parents’ home is fine, but there was much emailing and concern and worry for dear family and friends. I also didn’t have it in me to write a silly TOP 5 FAVORITE FOODS post when many that we know and love are devastated.
[The giveaway, with a major rad discount code, will be next week.] [Oh, and we will do TOP 5 FAVORITE FOODS because hello, we need to talk about ice cream.]

2. The Royal Wedding

  • If I’m not worried about the tornadic activity leftovers, I wanna talk Brit. The wedding. The dress. The service. The cousins’ crazy Whoville hats. All of it. I watched every minute that I could today. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. [We will talk about it next week, don’t you worry about that.]

3. Jane Eyre

  • It’s not totally Jane’s fault. But I did see the movie yesterday and my gracious the book is better. I was not in the mood to blog jolly after that. Have you seen it? What did you think?

4. Boot Camp is OVER!

  • So I kept finding myself wanting to tell you all about Boot Camp being over. And how I can hear angels sing every morning at 4:40am but now I don’t have to wake up and tell them to quit singing that song about me going to run a mile in the dark.

5. I’m going back to Scotland.

  • I’ll tell you all about that next Wednesday and Thursday. [See how organized I am? I plan my bloggy life out weeks in advance. Except, I rarely follow my bloggy schedule. But I seriously will next week.]
  • It’s just hard not to tell you RIGHT NOW because I really want to… like so so much.
  • If you don’t know about my love for Scotland, you can catch up here.

. . . . .

See? Those are all things you need to know. To recap:

  • Tornadoes are bad.
  • Weddings are good.
  • Movies are good. Books are better.
  • Boot camp was good. Sleep is better.
  • Scotland was so good, I’m doing it again.

. . . . .

Also. Before you head out of the weekend, you might need some new tunes. My dear friend Jessica has recorded an EP called My Immortal Home. It is her way to raise funds so she can move to Prague as a missionary. Will you buy it to support her and her move overseas? [Only the coolest kids move overseas…. squeal…. I’m scared.] Her voice is INSANE, you get new music for the weekend, AND you are helping another human fulfill her dreams.

. . . . .

So you are welcome, as always, to TOP 5 FRIDAY along with me. What are 5 things I need to know today? [Or you can do 1 thing, or 2 things, or talk about the wedding or the movie or really, I’m not the boss of you. Comment on whatever you want.]

I did watch Jane Eyre. I didn’t like it. The book was so much better and the Masterpiece Theatre version is much MUCH better.

    You are going back to Scotland!!!!! Yay :-}

@~ calista ~, Oh yay! I’ll have to watch the Masterpiece Theatre version. I feel like the new version lacks a lot of the aching feeling that the book fills you with- know what I mean?

@Annie, I agree! And Jane didn’t have nearly as much wit in the new movie either. Wit is a must for her character!

I didn’t watch the wedding, however, I saw bits of it online and on the news and I don’t really like Kate’s dress.
I agree, tornadoes are very, very bad. . . 🙁

@Laura, I thought her dress was classy, but it wasn’t what I expected at all.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the wedding. They looked so sweet. At first I thought the dress was a bit underwhelming (too much like Grace Kelly’s), but the close-ups of the lace, and the flow of the skirt and all won me over.

@Alexandra, I loved it. I want to be friends with Kate real real bad.

Ok…. I googled “wedding bouquets” and found out that Kate Middleton had “sweet William” flowers in her bouquet! How stinkin’ cute is that?!

@Jessica, you win. That’s the cutest thing I’ve heard all day.

I woke up at 1:00 AM this morning to watch the wedding {I’m a West coast girl!} I have never seen anything like it in my life!! The whole thing from the first guests arriving, to the two Princes getting out of their car, to Kate’s long awaited arrival to Kate and William riding in the horse drawn carriage…I loved every minute of it! It was definitely a fairytale dream come true.

And, to top it all off, they didn’t kiss just once on the balcony…they kissed twice! Now that’s a fairytale ending! 🙂

      @Tay, it was gorgeous.

    Your recap is awesome.
Glad your family and friends are OK. Praying for all those who are suffering.
Yay for the wedding! Lovely affair. Plus all the Christ-honoring preaching going on in that service was amazing. (Preaching isn’t the right word.)
Thanks for telling me about Jane Eyre. I was torn about going to see it.
Funny boot camp is over and you got up early to watch a wedding!
I got a feeling you’re staying a while longer this time???

    Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAlnM7RUDcA&feature=player_embedded
    It’s Scotland + Kate Middleton + a cappella + Lady Gaga.

@Elizabeth, I just laughed so hard. Funny stuff! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m so over this tornado business. I appreciate the milder winter but those sirens are going to drive me crazy with anxiety! Glad your friends and family are OK. My friends appear to be safe and sound as well.

    Loved Kate’s dress!

You’re going back to Scotland?!?! So exciting!

Tornadoes are bad. My uncle and his family live in Smithville, MS and their home was destroyed along with a good portion of the town. So sad.

Kate’s dress was gorgeous. It reminded me of Grace Kelly and Maria’s dress from The Sound of Music. Sigh. I wanna be a princess! What I’m more curious about though is, if her name is Catherine with a C, why is Kate spelled with a K?? That makes no sense to me. Anybody know?

I haven’t read Jane Eyre in years and I was debating on going to see the movie. Maybe I should just reread it.

Yay for bootcamp being over and even bigger YAY for going back to Scotland!!!!!!! Can’t wait to hear the deets!! YAY!

    1. Loved the wedding.
    2. Need to go watch the movie… Jane Eyre is one of my favorites, and I’m waiting to read it again until I’ve seen the movie. Then, I can see the movie and enjoy the deliciousness, and then reread the book and swoon and sigh over it again.
    3. I’m not going to do a boot camp, but I’ve been swimming again, and my body is very angry about that fact, and therefore is lashing out at me.
    4. Things I learned today: in the absence of a tetherball on the end of the tetherball pole, hooking a lunchbox to the end of the string is a suitable alternative. Hello Kitty was the only tetherbox casualty.
    5. I’m glad you’re going back to Scotland. I’m going to Rome, and I. can’t. wait.

Thanks Anya! You are the best and I can’t wait to tell everyone when I get to 100%. That truly will be a dream come true.

PS- So proud of you for finishing bootcamp. I bet you are so glad it’s over. I can’t imagine waking up that early and then doing the things y’all did. Yowza.

I also can’t WAIT to hear about Scotland!!

Ok the first of thing you need to know about me is that I have more time to read blogs like yours and some of the other community leaders from in(courage) on Saturdays although your blog I have in my favorites as a weekly blog read … that said I do read you more often than Saturdays.

The second thing is I do not subscribe to any blogs ‘casue rather than coming into my inbox (which right now the only regular e-message I get is the verse of the day from Zondervan)I can manage and prioritize my reading by choice and time.

The thrid thing you may want to know about me is I am 58 years old and I have always wanted to be a writer and am since 2007 with my blog and since 1980 (were you born then?) in notebooks numbered 1 through 47.

The fourth thing is you really did not ask to know about me but I told you anyways … and I am hoping that the next blooms book club (May 15) is yours. I am ordering a copy of your book right now here ’cause I have given up on winning it somewhere in this cyperspace of blogs.

    Thanks Annie!

    1. SO sad. My family is in Mississippi and they’ve all been fine, but Alabama is just devastating.

    2. Oh, my gosh. She was so, so beautiful, that dress and the veil… perfect. And they’re so cute together!

    3. Oh, I did love it. I thought Fassbender was a great Rochester. Have a soft spot for him now… it was short for time and some details cut, but I was a fan, and am apparently in the minority on love of the BBC version. Yikes!

    4. Good on you!

    5. JEALOUSY.

    1. I am from Kansas, and have lived through a tornado rolling through my college town in the middle of the summer. SO, I understand and am praying for all those that are in the midst of chaos.
    2. I had a crappy week. I am a teacher and the kids are all in the heights of spring fever…and probably I am too.
    3. However, I ended the week with a Royal Fairy Tale Wedding Watch Party. My roomie and I recorded and invited friends over. We had biscuits and tea and some wedding cake ice cream. We giggled and cried (okay, well I was the only one that cried.) It was a great way to end my week.
    4. I ran a 5K yesterday. A year ago, I couldn’t even run a minute.
    5. Books are always better than the movie! But it doesn’t stop me from watching them!

    Excited to hear about Scotland!

    Have a great weekend,
    Larissa
