Day 20 :: Lois is brave.

Oh friends. You remember Lois- she’s blogged around here before. Pretty much, this post took my breath away. The girl needs to write. A lot. And often.

Lois, take it away.

. . . . .

Why hello there, Annie Blogs readers! For those of you who don’t know me/remember me, my name is Lois and I wrote a Top 5 Friday back in July while Annie spoke at a youth camp I was at. Since then things have been pretty good. As I write this, I am preparing to move to Liverpool to start my three years at university. Boy, am I nervous. I keep thinking about moving and how I’m going to cope without my parents being there, and instead being 225 miles away. People tell me that moving away from home is difficult but it’s a very courageous thing to do.

How much courage do you have? Would your friends, co-workers and family members call you a courageous person?

When I think about courage, this Bible verse that comes to mind.

‘The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion”  –Proverbs 28:1

That verse is nailed in my noggin thanks to Annie at Camp back in July!

The dictionary defines courage as the ability to face and deal with a dangerous or difficult situation.

I’m going to share with you something that happened to me that involved me making what I see as a courageous decision.

If there’s anything I love to do, it’s socialising. I’m a people person, I love seeing my friends as well as meeting new friends. A few weeks ago I was out on a walk with my friends, the majority of them male and in my town one of the social activities is drinking, so the boys decided to go buy alcohol and sit in a park, and drink.

Do you ever get those moments where you know what’s going on is wrong but don’t want to be the killjoy of the party and tag along anyway?

I tagged along, but told the boys that I wasn’t going to have a drop of alcohol. My friend Petra who was the only other female with me decided to take that opportunity to go home. I shrugged it off thinking that she was maybe tired or had something to do. As Petra left, a small vision came to me in that moment. In this vision we were sitting in the park, the boys getting drunk and enjoying the company, me wishing I could get out of there and along come the police. They take down everyone’s names and phone numbers, and take us home to our angry parents. Even though I never had a drop, the police took my name.

When I came back to reality, I took the opportunity there and then to leave. I refused to get caught up in the mess the boys were creating for themselves. I left, and prayed for everyone of them as I ran back home.

I have no idea if the police came along, but the Lord showed me the outcome and gave me an opportunity to walk away. It took courage to stand up to the boys and say ‘Sorry, but I can’t and won’t do this.’

When making decisions, put yourself in the following mind frame:

  1. If I say Yes, how will it benefit me?
  2. If I say No, how will it benefit me?
  3. What does the Lord feel I should do?
  4. Is this part of His plan for me?

Spending time with Him in prayer and even just spilling my thoughts helps wonders with the choices I make.

I like to think courage makes us better people, it makes people look up to us and think ‘How does she do it?’

Courage allows us to set an example for others.

Courage allows us to face down our fears.

Courage allows us to act on our values and not on our impulses.

It allows you to be the best you can be.

Well that’s just my view on it!

AnnieBlogs readers, make good choices, stay in school and be courageous!

Until next time….
