TOP 5 FRIDAY: Googs it.

TOP 5 FRIDAY is when we each list five of our favorite things, depending on the topic. Feel free to join in via the comments or by posting on your own blog and linking back here. Play along. It’s Friday.

. . . . .

My pal Lyndsay Rush wrote a great post this week about what she has googled lately. As well, a handful of us sat around the other night with our smart phones in hand, and giggled through the list of things we found important enough to google, or “googs,” on the go.

So keeping it short and sweet this Friday, here are the top 5 things I’ve googled lately.

. . . . .

1. “bake with salted or unsalted butter”

It seems that no matter how mature I get, I will never have this fact memorized. It’s what I call a Mom Fact- things that Moms just seem to know. Sadly, my mom was in France at the time of need, so google had to suffice.

By the way, the answer is unsalted.

2. “I can’t make you love me”

Great song. And it’s true- I can’t make you love me.

3. “China flag”

We were in an emoji war, trying to text as many Asian symbols as possible. I just wanted to make sure I got the Chinese flag right. I want to win, but I want to win fair.

4. “Vandy baseball roster”

Well, no one can be surprised about me needing these stats on hand right now. Love those dudes.

5. “Brentwood skating park”

It’s a complicated story. I needed to find the skating rink, I don’t know why I ever called it a park. Parks are for skateboarding. Skateboarding makes me fall down and cry. We wanted rollerskating, old school style.

But I needed to googs the location so that these things could happen.

It was a dream of a Saturday and thanks to google, we got there just fine.

. . . . .

YOUR TURN!

Look on your phone or computer and tell me what are the last five things you have googled!

First question for you. Why are you supposed to use unsalted butter for baking? I never heard that before. I always bake with the saulted stuff I always have in the house. I’d really like to know why the unsalted is better.
Second, you are so right about the song, and that we can’t make people love us. Hard thing to remember sometimes. But, Annie, I do love you!
    My 5 things I googled recently…
moving companies; I have to move next weekend and I need to check out my options for hiring movers. Boy are some of them over-priced.
pet cleaners; I told my mom I had found, at one time, online a cleaner you can use to clean up messes if your pet goes to the bathroom in the house somewhere. So, I tried to google it and find it again, but have not had any luck yet.
recipes; I was looking for chocolate cake and brownie recipes. I so want chocolate and I want to bake. I did find a chocolate cinimon cake that looks good.
the path project; Melinda Curry and her husband started this non-profit, and she mentioned it on facebook. So, I googled it to find the website.
Coach key chains; I was looking for a present for my nieces 16th birthday, and she loves coach. So, I thought of getting her a key chain from there(that’s about all I can afford from that store), but I decided to wait until she actually gets her lisence and a car.

I laughed at the ridiculousness of mine…
    1. Cat Avengers (to send to a colleague who loves his cats, and is a comic book nerd like me)
    2. Concerts in New Orleans in July (a friend and I are planning a trip for my birthday and I wanted to see if anyone was playing while we were there)
    3. The Basement (I needed directions to where my friend was playing last night)
    4. An Apartment Complex (In my desperate search for a new home here in Nashville I was looking up the one, which I am now signing a lease with)
    5. Zoom Movers (see #4)

Love this! Google histories are like windows unto our souls. …Or something.
    1. “Drive from Fisher Street, Doolin to Cul Na Greine, Shannon” (I AM GOING TO IRELAND in TWO WEEKS! And am still feverishly printing out Google maps…)
    2. “Cookie basket Canton Ohio” (Shhh it’s a bday present for my sister)
    3. “602-588-3800” (haha – I thought I had a secret admirer who was prank calling me. Turns out it was my doctor’s office. Boo on so many levels…)
    4. “Phoenix Department of Corrections” (my boss and I were talking about the sad fate of many of our high school friends. I will leave it at that.)
    5. “conjoined twins” (I read a short story and got curious, ok!?)

Someone (you!) should write a book about the psychology behind our Google searches…

Oh lawdy. This is probably going to be extremely embarrassing.

    2. “how much milk does a baby drink” (apparently they don’t drink much. Which makes my comment about “i think i drink more milk than a newborn baby” a little misleading)

    3. “Christopher Meloni Birmingham” (apparently he’s in my hometown filming the movie 42. I wanna meet him. I always get sucked in SVU marathons when they’re on tv and he’s part of the reason)

    4. “one direction song about being beautiful” (I am ashamed to admit that I like this song. I just didn’t know the name until Google informed me)

    5. “car manufacture logos” (I was playing the “Logos” game on my phone and desperately needed to get to the next level. You call it cheating, I call it resourceful)
