Father’s Day gifts that aren’t lame.

My poor Dad has put up with his fair share of coupon books and golf balls and books about golfers or money or golfers who make money [Dad works in the money world, so he likes reading that stuff]. This year, we have a pretty rad present for him, but unfortunately, I cannot tell you about it because there are days when my Dad reads this blog [HEY DADDY!] and his gift is a surprise.

I shall tell you post-gift giving. I promise.

I’ve been perusing the internet to try to help you find a few gift ideas that maybe you haven’t found on your own just in case you didn’t realize that A FATHER’S DAY GIFT SHOULD BE PURCHASED FOR YOUR FATHER BECAUSE JUNE 17TH, 2012 IS FATHER’S DAY.

Let the unorganized listing begin!

First of all, there is this cool giveaway from Thomas Nelson to go along with All Pro Dad by Mark Merrill. So, you can try to win that for your Pops.

Mocha Club has created a super fly [huh?] mug that I think Dads will love. The money you spend will go towards job creation in Africa and Dads love taking care of business – so win win!

This company is getting a lot of buzz around Nashville right now- and you can subscribe to Birchbox for your Dad or husband. Birchbox Man, for $20/month, will send your man a box of sample grooming products. This is probably a great one for those of you who don’t live in the same town as your folks.

[But welcome to 2012 where literally any gift can be sent to a Dad anywhere, except hugs. Hugs must be personally delivered. I think. But even that will probably change soon. Technology is amazing like that. ]

Is your dad a reader? May I suggest Love Does by Bob Goff? The men in Nashville are FREAKING THEIR FREAK about this book. Everyone is reading it. And you know what guys keep saying? “I want to talk to him.” It’s a strange response- usually people say, “Oh man, you should read this book” or “I can’t wait to read his next book,” but with Bob, guys want to TALK to him. Personally. [And you can, because that dude put his cell phone number in the back of his book. No kidding.] I haven’t read it yet, so I don’t know what it is about this book that makes people want to know him, but guys do.

I mean, you could always do a Bacon of the Month Club too, but just note that most BOTM Clubs don’t ship in the summer- you know, 100 degrees outside and riding around in the back of a huge brown truck for a day is not the best way to treat a pig product.

But it’s a solid option if your Dad digs delayed gratification.

. . . . .

I made a short list.

But my lovely friend Jessica made a long list of 101 Father’s Day Gift Ideas that you may want to check out, too.

Now, go and get your shop on, people.
