How my times, they are a changin’.

It’s nice to be home.

I have loved LOVED being on the road this fall – traveling, speaking, visitin’, etc. – but I am glad that I have a few weeks off the road. For these last 6 weeks of 2012, I have one more high school retreat weekend and then a three day meeting in Texas, but I’m virtually done for traveling this year.

It feels good and weird and good.

Mainly good.

While I’ve been in and out of town, my home has gotten a bit whackadoodle. My bedroom still has two clothes-vomiting suitcases on the floor and my winter clothes in boxes in the closet and my desk covered in receipts and bank statements and papers that are supposed to be important to me but aren’t exactly. Sidenote: I’m not sure what all is stacked on my chair in my room, but I know the stack prevents me from sitting in said chair.

So my Thursday is full of cleaning and organizing and stacking receipts and looking through the piles of mail that I have ignored for months.

My life needs some attention, y’all.

Also. Peace.

My life needs some peace.

Clean and organized feels peaceful to me… which is hilarious since my bedroom has been in a constant state of messy since elementary school. But I’m making some other changes too now that I’m home for a while.

1. BUDGET. I’m taking my budget seriously. No more “well I’m only home for two days so I can eat out fourteen times” budget thinking. Luckily, I’m getting some assistance with the biz side of my career, so that should help.

2. COMPUTER BOUNDARIES. I’ve gotten in a bad habit of watching TV on my computer at night. And I think some of the peace of my bedroom has been lost. I’ve never had a TV in my room and I don’t want one. So I’m now turning my computer off, like OFF, at 10pm and leaving it at my desk. I mean, on top of the piles of papers that I have yet to read.

3. EXERCISE. Lindsey and I have a plan to not get huge this holiday season by actually going to the gym a few times a week together in the mornings. So. We’ll see how that goes.

4. CLEAN ROOM. I’ve just gotta. It makes me so much happier.

5. LISTEN FIRST. Emily taught me this. When I wake up, before I check my phone in any way, I sit up and while I’m stretching my neck and opening my eyes, I listen to God. I want His voice to be the first I hear every day. Not twitter’s voice or facebook’s voice or my bossy email inbox.

Psalm 16:6 says that the boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places. I am a BIG BIG fan of boundaries and order and things in place. So I’m excited to spend the next few days making that possible in my life and my home and, in some ways, my heart.

. . . . .

What are some ways that you bring peace into your life and home?

Teach me, wise one.
