Dove real beauty sketches.

I hope you’ve seen this already. It made me cry. It has me thinking. It is an important piece of work.

[hey subscribers- there’s a video here. Click over to watch it!]

There’s a lot more information and videos over at the Dove Real Beauty Sketches’ website. I think Kela is my favorite. “It’s so magical,” she says, “when you see someone who has it… who knows they are wonderful and beautiful.”

Isn’t that the truth?

I’ve got to tell you what goes on in my brain when I see this video. I wonder how to teach this to teen girls. I wonder how we can do something like this at an event. I wonder why women are so lost when it comes to their own beauty.

How do we do this? How do we, as God’s people, start calling out beauty when we see it in others? How do we choose to believe the truth for ourselves?

What do you think?

It made me cry the first time I saw it, too. Loving ourselves, being comfortable in our own skin is something so difficult for many girls and women. I wish I knew how to silence the lie of the enemy and only listen to the Voice of Truth at all times.

WOW! That was so powerful & it made me cry. It’s sad to think how hard we are on ourselves. Thanks for sharing this.

I read that post as well and think she has some very valid points. For me though, the value of the experience (for us, the value of watching the experience) is still really evident.

As a girl who grew up not feeling beautiful at all, I think this video speaks straight to that lie. How you see yourself is NOT how everyone else sees you.

Thanks for the link, though. I think that writer did an incredible job processing her issues with the video.

I teared up, too!! I think there’s so much to what the commenter above said about listening to the Voice of Truth vs. listening to the lies Satan tells us & we believe. I’m still learning that at 31 years old. Definitely a message that girls (young & old) need to hear.

My cousin is in the video (Olivia). I had heard she randomly was doing this thing with Dove, but when I watched it, I was totally moved. I’ve always thought Olivia was gorgeous, totally the California girl, but watching this was a good reminder of how we all tend to focus on the negatives we see is downplay any positives. Definitely made me pause when I looked in the mirror after watching it!
