TFIOSTitle: The Fault In Our Stars

. . . . .

John Green

(You can read more on his website, or follow him on Twitter and Facebook!)

What the book is about:

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Why I like it:

This weekend I’m featuring the PG-13 books and to me, that includes The Fault In Our Stars. You may disagree with me on including this one, as the characters make some choices that I do not consider wise choices and the kind to be emulated by teen girls (though the same could be said for To Kill A Mockingbird, eh?). But that is the reason this is included in our PG-13 weekend. This is not a book to be read alone by young teens- not just for sexual reasons (though there are those), but also because there is deep heartache and pain and loss and joy and love that are best read and discussed with an adult who can speak into the emotion. (Heck, I needed to talk about the book after I read it!)

This book has important themes worthy of reading and discussing. I highly suggest you add it to your reading list and the list of the young woman in your life.

(If you want to know more of my thoughts, I wrote about the movie here.)

(If you want to see me interview the author and stars of the movie, you can watch those here.)
