TOP 5 FRIDAY: Fashiony blogs

TOP 5 FRIDAY is when we each list five of our favorite things, depending on the topic. Feel free to join in via the comments or by posting on your own blog and linking back here. Play along. It’s Friday.

. . . . .

Dear Annie 2006,

You are absolutely not going to believe what I am going to blog about today. FASHION. Blogs that I like to read because they teach me about FASHION. I know, it’s very unlike the Annie you know. But in the future, I actually really like being trendy, or attempting and missing and etc.

Also, get all the wear you can out of your fleece collection because it leaves your life in 2010.

. . . . .

I figured since we totally dude-d up last week’s Top 5 Friday, we could swing all the way to the other end of the bloggy spectrum… this end is glittery and pink and has perfect beachy wavy hair that I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO.

Here are my personal Top 5 favorite fashion blogs that I think you will really enjoy. [I mean, even if you aren’t super trendy, as I am not super trendy, there are gorgeous pics and ideas on each blog. Give ’em a try, okay? Thanks.]

1. Glitter Guide –>

I’ve told y’all about this one before when I was listing spring things I love, but man I cannot quit it. I have even sorta almost tried to implement a few things I’ve learned. And that’s a big step for a naturally untrendy gal like myself.

2. Womanista –>

I love the variety of posts that The Womanista offers- from travel to fashion to shopping. I dig. Her budget and my budget? A bit different. That’s pretty true across the board on fashion blogs, but she also offers a lot of low cost high quality products. Either way, I really enjoy seeing what she features and learning from her. [Full disclosure: this blog is run by one of my besties. That truth does not negate the previous truth that this is a killer website that you should be reading.]

3. Amber Lehman Styling –>

You guys know Amber. The girl is quite the regular around these parts. She helps me not look ridiculous in public or in photos. [Also, Annie 2006, Amber is the reason you lose your fleece collection. Sorry, but it is better this way.] She’s an incredible stylist, always knows what is coming next in fashion, and blogs tons of fingernail polish colors which, as you know, is my love language [besides blog talk].

4. Nicolette Mason –>

This girl. I wanna know her. She dresses so.much.cooler. than I do. And I love seeing girls who aren’t child size being super trendy. Also, she has a thing for glitter. [As do I. Duh. It’s my favorite color.] Meaning, that next time someone feels the desire to drop $995 on a gift for me, this purse that Nicolette owns would be fine.

5. Cupcakes and Cashmere –>

Yes. Love. Lots to glean from these gals. And, of course, there are tons of pictures of beachy wavy hair which, I’m serious, I’ve tried a zillion different methods and my locks just plain revolt. So rude. Don’t hold that against this blog. Read on, my friends. Thanks to Lyndsay for introducing me to Cupcakes and Cashmere… I mean the website, not the items. I’ve been long acquainted with cupcakes.

. . . . .

What are your favorite fashion/style blogs?

[Also, have you figured out beachy waves? Teach me.]

Annie – first off I love your blog! It’s a daily read for me! So two fashion blogs I try to keep up with are the Style Your Life blog and The Small Things Blog. The Style Your Life blogis from a personal stylist from Cali. She puts together virtual outfits with different kinds of themes and colors with very cute stuff. ( The Small Things blog does a little bit of everything including hair tutorials! ( an awesome weekend!

This is really a great list. I’m gonna check them out now since I love fashion blogs as well. Do you still have any other favorite fashion blogs aside from the 5 blogs you listed? Thanks for sharing.

Well, I am ‘child size’ but if you can get past that, you can check my Wardrobe Wednesdays when I post about fashion. The rest of my blog is just about life.

I also really like The Daybook Blog, Kendi Every Day, and My Edit Blog.

    Beachy waves..

    you need this –

Blow dry til a little less than damp .. Douse your hair in the texture spray.. Let it air dry the rest of the way. Then… Get some large hot rollers (yes. hot rollers. Hello early 90’s. Mine are the kind that are velvety on the roller part) roll it up halfway / 3/4 way to your scalp, clip it, spritz it with hair spray, leave it in for a minute or less (while you do another one or two, take it out. repeat. give your head a shake, spritz it and enjoy your beachy/loose waves. I usually finish it off by spraying some of the texture spray onto my hands and running my fingers through to separate / shape waves. Also, I use just the barrel of my 1.5″ curling iron to add some more waves as needed… (ex: wrap your hair around the barrel, hold for a few seconds, let go.. don’t use the clip.)

You’re welcome for the longest tutorial comment ever. Also, my hair is super thick and super long – so adjust times / etc. for your length/texture 🙂 Let me know if it works for you!

I feel your pain with the beachy waves. Personally, I’m starting to think you have to live on the beach to be blessed with the ability to pull them off. Until then, I will pinterest my heart out and tackle all pins hair worthy. But thanks for sharing your top 5! I especially loved the Cupcakes and Cashmere link…mainly because I love all things cupcakes- actually, scratch that…I love all things having to do with baked goods.

I usually don’t leave comments on blogs but I felt compelled to share so blog lovin’:
This girl is a rock star. Born & raised southern she did what every girl is scared to do and planted her roots on the West coast. Talk about courage! Her blog has a lot to do with food- real food. But what caught my eye are her additional posts on fashion (on budget. yeah!), quality book reviews, out-of-the-box exercises, and most importantly the girl loves some Jesus which is refreshing & encouraging. Take a look!
This girl is a hoot. Just read her “intro”. Plus her look is feminine and reasonably priced. Did I mention she designs most of her clothes? Props to the girls with sewing machines.
It’s all in the title. Knock your little book-worm heart out!

I don’t have anything to add for fashion blogs, because my fashion mostly comes from doing my best to put on clean/non-sweaty clothes before I leave the house to see people. (I am a teacher and it’s summer, so I have this desire to live in my PJ’s, but I try to leave the house sometimes.)

However, I do say, I would love to have beachy waves in my hair, too. I try by doing the diffusing thing and adding a little curl stuff to my hair.

Thanks for the links! I hope to improve on the fashion thing this summer.

Looks like these two are popular and I read them both all the time:

I love Kate’s hair tutorials and have tried several of the styles. She has some good suggestions for hair products too.

I like that the clothes featured by J are affordable and won’t break the bank. I have a limited clothing budget and it’s a great site to get everyday outfit ideas.

I have been following since she started up a month or two ago and I do enjoy her blog. Although her monthly clothing budget is probably what I spend in 5 years it’s fun to imagine what life would be like if I lived in that world.

    Have a great weekend Annie!

Annie – thanks for the style blogs…fun! – There are two great sites I found recently that I really like. While they’re not really fasion sites, they definitely tie into fasion, so top speak. They give lots of tips on makeup (and they do nailpolish and sometimes hair…even the beachy wave, which i cannot do either! :). First is These sisters have a youtube channel with loads of tutorials. And then there’s She’s got lots of videos too. Hope you find them fun! Enjoy.
    Love your blog!
