The Final Rose. Some final thoughts.

on March 12, 2013 in Ze Bloggy Goodness with 4 comments by

For starters, if you have NOT seen the finale, step away from the blog. I’m going to spill all the beans from last night.

First of all, Women Tell All from last week.

Tierra. She is just a pile of crazy. And if you think she is really engaged to a human, you are a kinder soul than I. That child pure wasted her 15 minutes of fame.

AshLee. You know, AshLee and Sean’s convo about her accusing him of saying that he had no feelings for the other two girls? It has been widely discussed around our Bach-circles in Nashville and honestly, no one really knows what to believe. Maybe he got swept up in the moment and said that… twice? Maybe she took his words to mean something different than he meant? Maybe she is cuckoo? I don’t know, but I was sorry she went out like that.

Now for Monday night’s episode.

First of all, the live stuff? When Chris Harrison is interviewing the audience? That part makes me feel weird, like we live in the Capital from the Hunger Games books, like we as a people consider pain and heartbreak entertainment.

[Ahem. I’m gonna leave that alone. Just making an observation.]

Here was my favorite part of all three hours of my Monday night television watching: when Sean and his mom were talking about which girl he should pick and she starts to cry, Sean’s face gets LEGIT concerned and walks his mom away from the cameras.

That boy. He’s a keeper.

I really loved when the girls got to meet his family. Seriously, y’all. Don’t you just want to KNOW them? I mean, I was all teary both times Sean’s dad spoke to the girls. Isn’t it sweet to see a Godly family represented well on television?

Also, I just feel it my duty to make sure you know that Sean’s sister Shay has a blog and it is awesome.

I’m not good at recapping every detail of the episode and honestly, I don’t really want to. But I’ll say highlight moments:

  • Lindsey taking off her shoes to walk away from the rose ceremony
  • When Sean told Catherine he loved her
  • Shay’s son saying, “Emily didn’t pick you”
  • Sean crying when he re-watching his engagement
  • Catherine’s face during her engagement… hilarious, hyperventilating, etc.

Low points:

  • Lindsey’s voice [sorry]
  • Chris Harrison’s interviewing skillz… off the mark last night, bud.
  • Lindsey’s final rose ceremony dress [sorry again]

Overall, I was sad for Lindsey, I am happy for Catherine. I really really hope they make it- it seems like they will. You know, when Sean said that he spent the whole week praying and asking God to show him what to do, I believe him.

This New York Times article is really interesting, about the resurgence of The Bachelor and how this season has had such a boost in ratings, and I think it is 100% because of what a good guy Sean is. Huzzah for ratings going UP when a Bachelor is honest, kind, openly Christian, and not knockin’ boots in the fantasy suites.

[We discussed last night the future of the fantasy suite situation- have Emily and Sean removed the coolness of having relations with three different people on television? Possibly. Could be interesting to see what happens the next time a Bachelor/Bachelorette uses those rooms as ABC intends.]

I’m sad this season is over. It was terribly fun to watch.

I made a promise to myself that I would no longer blog about people that are famous that I hope to be friends with because then it may happen [this is Nashville, things happen, remind me to tell you the Mumford story sometime] and I will feel silly that a real life friend can read blogs I wrote about him/her before we were real life friends.  But I shall break that promise for Sean. I hope I get to be friends with him and Catherine, even though I blogged about them. 🙂 I have a blog. His sister has a blog. We’re practically besties.

My final thoughts?

Three cheers for the best season of The Bachelor yet. Three cheers for a Godly man staying true to himself [as best we know] in this process and restoring my hope that every bachelor won’t be Ben. And I am genuinely glad that Sean seems to have found the woman he will marry.

And I am praying that Sean’s influence continues to grow and that God continues to be honored through his life.

Amen.

. . . . . .

So what are your thoughts?

Happy with the outcome?

Do you like Sean?

Do you think he and Catherine will make it?

What was your favorite part of last night’s episode?

I thought it was a great ending 🙂 And Lindsey was quite gracious (and I’m with the many who loved that she ditched her heels walking on that crazy path!) Smith was a riot when he said that about Emily not picking Sean.

I’ve been to a number of the W/M Tell All and ATFR tapings and sure wish I could have been at this one! I think all season Chris has been quite snarky (moreso than usual, especially toward Sean’s choice of Catherine – which I knew was his choice all along…and no, not because of Reality Steve) I wonder if some of that is a reflection of all that’s happened in his (Chris’ personal life) over the last year or so? I do know that Catherine is NOT a huge fan of TPTB of the Bachelor because of how they edited the season, largely leaving out their love story. Although I did think it was totally obvious that Sean was WAY into Cat because he was totally different around her and just glowed, so some of it may have been that. And that may also explain why they cut out things like him giving her notes in return, and left in so much of what he said about Lindsey, especially, at the end, and trying to make it seem he was more conflicted than I think he really was.

So in light of that I’m a ::little:: surprised that they’re going to do a public wedding – but I actually think it’s in their contracts that if they get married within a certain period of time of the ending of the show, ABC has first “rights” at doing it (that had been a clause in the past, I’m not sure if it’s still there or not). Many thought that was why Ashley and JP were waiting, especially since they got out of the public eye quite quickly after their season ended…but of course then they ended up doing the whole televised thing, too.

I think it’ll be interesting to see if Sean’s dad does the wedding. He is able to do them (and just did a family member’s recently) – and I’m sure it’ll be a much more faith based wedding than there has been in the past on the show – which will be interesting to see how that’s edited (or depicted, maybe is a better word!)

I thought it was cute how all season long Sean and Cat were twittering things or doing things that were hinting at her being who he chose. Like what’s now the twitter header for both of them. Sean had it first, minus Catherine. But then Catherine posted a picture of herself wearing the same glasses shortly after. And now their headers are that picture with her in it…and it turns out she made it for them ages ago. And the whole footy pajama thing that he talked about on the show…she posted a picture of herself also wearing footy pajamas (and red ones, at that, like the snowsuit date colour!)

And I agree about how the fantasy suite thing has changed the past two seasons with Emily and Sean. I suspect Desiree will handle it similarly. She had been actively involved at Rock Harbor church until she moved further out of OC and I’m not sure that’s still where she’s attending. But I know from her blog (that was removed before the season started) that she also really takes her faith seriously. So I’d guess we’ll see that reflected in this new season, too. It starts taping this week!

Mostly I’m interested to see how the rest of the big announcement (being made tomorrow morning on GMA) ends up impacting wedding plans/timing… 🙂 But I do think these two will actually make it!

    Those are my thoughts 🙂

    Yes to everything you said!

My favorite tweet from last night said, “Can Sean’s dad be the next bachelor? He completes me.” I laughed so hard!

Okay. I just can’t NOT comment on this.
I didn’t watch the whole season. I only saw “Sean Tells All” and “Women Tell All” … BUT, I learned a lot in those episodes.

    1. Thank God that he picked Catherine over Lindsey. Personally, I thought she was just too over the top, forward, needy … Catherine seemed to be more thoughtful, intentional, and calculated about her interactions with Sean, which comforted me (since she was on national television) and made think she wasn’t a crazy girl. Although, when she said she was “addicted” to him, I cringed a little, but tried not to judge. I need to cut her some slack.

    2. You hate Lindsey’s voice TOO?! THANK YOU! I never said it out loud, but her voice killed me – and I almost had to turn my head every time she kissed him. ugh.

    3. Yes to everything about his family. His sweet mom was trying so hard to be supportive, but couldn’t shake her concern for him – and his DAD?! No words. Love them. I wish we could have seen more of the family – they were so great.

    4. I heard this morning that Sean is going to be on “Dancing with the Stars” … I have mixed feelings about that for whatever reason.

    5. Other than the fact that Lindsey asked Sean THE SAME QUESTION (about what happened) five times, I thought she handled things well and was very classy and kind in her support of him. That made me happy.

    6. I love that Catherine seems so comfortable in her own skin: independent, confident, excited, and in love. I like her.

    7. PUMPED about Des being the next Bachelorette.

Okay, cutting myself off now. K thanks. Bye!

I couldn’t agree with you more about this season’s Bachelor. I love(d) Sean. Although, in the interest of full disclosure, I’ve never watched an episode before this season.

Can I just say what a jerk move it was for the Bachelor to make those women walk that distance on a gravel path in those heels?!
